What is Ramadan?
Ramadan is the Holy Month for Muslims, when you are twelve years old or older you must observe a sunrise to sunset fast. This means you must not take any liquids (not even any water) or food. You must not gossip or saying anything cruel against another person.
When is Ramadan?

Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic calendar.

Ramadan in 2011 will start on Monday, the 1st of August and will continue for 30 days until Tuesday, the 30th of August.


How is Ramadan celebrated?
external image ramadan44.jpgThe end of Ramadan is celebrated by going to the mosque for special prayers which give thanks to God. Both men and women may go to the mosque at this time, but the men will say their prayers separately from the women.
Many Muslims will return to their family home for Ramadan. They will pay respects to their parents, a very important part of the celebrations. Younger Muslims will ask their parents for forgiveness for misdeeds during the year, and kiss their hands as a sign of respect.
When Muslims return home (or go to the homes of family and friends) to continue their celebration, they are beginning Eid Al Fitr.
Eid-Ul-Fitr is the time to break the fast and have delicious food. Eid-ul-fitr is the time to celebrate and enjoy. Muslims visit to mosque for special prayers and all the friends and relatives have a small get together where all of them have Eid meal together to built a feeling of unity among each other and spread the happiness and love all around. They greet each other by saying Eid Mubarak!
